Our Top 10 Uses for Barbecue Sauce
My baby’s got sauce, your baby ain’t sweet like mine…
We think G. Love said it best, and yes we have sauce. While we think it’s a different sauce than what he was referring to, it still goes well with some funky lemonade.
We’re talking about BBQ sauce. Pure Grit BBQ sauce to be specific. BBQ sauce is the 4th condiment: ketchup, mayo, mustard and BBQ sauce. Hot sauce is the fifth, but that’s for another post.
The thing that’s always struck us about BBQ sauce is that it’s trapped in a glass bottle. Of all the condiments, it’s really not that generously squeezable, it’s caged like a precious topping to be used sparingly, and only when you spark up the grill. This is an entire post challenging that notion. We think it should be used on everything, daily. BBQ sauces run the gamut from hot to sweet and everything in between and we imagine some of those flavors aren’t that great on the below. What we know for certain is that the following taste great with our sauce. Trust us. Here’s a list of our top 10 uses for our BBQ sauce - in no particular order…
Vegan Egg sandwich - Your morning ritual of egg sandwiches takes a tangy twist when you begin pouring on the sauce. Please notice the squeeze friendly BBQ sauce bottle for the table. As you can imagine we get it by the gallon so this well worn squeeze bottle is essential. Our favorite vegan eggs are JUST which now has a frozen option perfect for sandwiches.
Tacos and nachos - Anything with a salty crunch or wrapped in a tortilla needs BBQ sauce.
Hot dogs and burgers - Duh, of course, makes sense, we put BBQ sauce next to the other condiments and load it up.
Veggie dip - Stay with us on this one, you make a crudité platter of all your favorite veggies, you’ve got your hummus, your creamy dip, and our BBQ sauce. It’s good. Put it in a bowl and dip away.
Roasted veggies - Olive oil, salt and pepper will make them delicious, BBQ sauce will take them to the next level.
PIZZA - enough said.
Salad - We usually just pour some BBQ sauce on our salad and call it a day. Especially when that salad is full of our smoked mains. When we are feeling ambitious we mix with a simple cashew cream dressing for a BBQ ranch. Here’s a cashew dressing we recommend.
BBQ mayo - Even simpler than above, mix one part BBQ sauce with one part of your favorite vegan mayo (ours is Vegenaise). You’ll thank me for this simple hack.
A cheese board - Seriously, treat it like a spread on crackers and bread to compliment your favorite cheeses. Sharp cheddar, so good. Not sure about brie, but if you try it, tag us. We have many favorite plant-based cheeses including widely available Vivolife to Miyoko’s.
