Well, that didn’t go according to plan, but we are LIVE.
We have spent the past year working on Pure Grit BBQ. From developing the brand name and identity to market research and menu development. Along the way, we have worked with and met brilliant people with boundless energy and passion for the fast casual industry in New York City. It has been humbling, exciting, heart-wrenching, and inspiring.
We were pushing to open a downtown location by May 2020. We had a few setbacks along the way, as those familiar with NYC real-estate will understand. And then COVID happened. We knew we were lucky to have not signed a lease, but our dreams of opening a brick and mortar location in May were dashed. Since we cannot welcome you to our restaurant, we thought we would bring the BBQ to you.
We are excited to announce that we have just launched our online store featuring Pure Grit merch, and products to help you BBQ from home. This is where you come in. If you are reading this, you are already part of my community and it is my hope that you become a part of the Pure Grit community. We are a start-up with big dreams of welcoming everyone to the table for some delicious BBQ. Please pull up a chair, share our news and consider ordering from our store. Each order makes a big difference. If you see something amiss on the site please let us know.
We like to say Pure Grit is “BBQ for All” because our menu is plant-based and gluten-free. It’s designed to appeal to all palettes so that everyone can have a seat at the table. I worked with a plant-based chef and two pitmasters to create simple delicious recipes for you to make at home. As I am neither a chef nor a pitmaster, I have spent my time in quarantine practicing these recipes and ensuring that anyone can be an at home smoker. It is not as intimidating as it seems, and trust me, if I can do it, you can do it.
We believe that sharing a meal is what BBQ is all about. As part of our mission, 10% of profits from our e-commerce store will go to two organizations that we believe in, the World Central Kitchen and the ACLU.
